Pictures from Hurricane Isabel

Getting ready for the storm. It doesn't look like it in this picture, but the power is out and it's very dark. The candles on the shelf are what we're using for light.

Since the worst of the storm is about to hit, we decide to eat and sleep in the basement. Again, it's very dark and we're using the flashlight to see.

The first thing we see when we wake up -- our deck littered with branches and leaves.

It's a wonder more trees didn't fall in our back yard, but you can see the numerous limbs and branches that have come down.

The fenced-in dog's area is a mess -- tree limbs, leaves, and branches everywhere. Amazingly the entire fence is still up.

The gate to the dog's area is blocked off with branches and small trees -- look closely and you'll see the bark has actually been stripped off by the wind.

A massive limb falls on the driveway -- we're glad we moved our cars to the street.

Although in this picture it has already been moved by our neighbors, this tree fell at about 10 pm and was blocking the exit to our cul-de-sac. Our elderly neighbors who tried to get to a shelter when a large tree barely missed their home were unable to get out.
