At Aidan's 6 month checkup, he weighed 19 lbs, 5 oz and was 27 and 3/8 inches long. He got another round of immunizations which he handled very bravely and got a clean bill of health.
Just after Aidan's four month checkup, he started eating rice cereal. It took about a week for him to actually eat any of it and now he loves his cereal! He's up to eating solids three times a day and gets a good variety of fruits, vegetables, and cereal. He's been very involved in his playgroup and has even had playgroup at our house in February. We've gone to the park a lot with our playgroup now that the weather is getting nicer. On Valentine's Day weekend (at 4 1/2 months), Aidan sat up for the first time. (At Chuck E. Cheese of all places!) Our friends Kathy and Mike Hutchinson and their children Emily and Rachel (my goddaughter) were visiting and witnessed his new milestone. While they were here we went to Maymont and fed the farm animals. All the kids had a great time. Aidan graduated to the big bath tub with a bath ring instead of his infant tub. His new favorite thing to do in the tub is to scoop up and eat the bubbles. On Feb. 27 (3 days after his 5 month birthday), Aidan got his first tooth (on the bottom). Five days later the second tooth came in at the bottom. In March, Aidan had dinner with the girls when he and Galit went out with her teacher friends (Diana, Suzanne, and Sara). His Grandma Kashi and Aunt Eddi (Galit's mom and sister) came to visit and while they were here we went to the park, fed the animals at Maymont, and had a good time showing off his sitting abilities and new teeth. We also invented countless new verses to "Down by the Bay." We visited Mac at his new job and went to a housewarming party. We also went to Lawson's first birthday party (Lawson is in our playgroup). Aidan starting rolling over from back to tummy while in his crib. We would go to get him up from a nap and he'd be on his belly. We had a playdate with Amy & Mitchell (who is just 2 days younger than Aidan) who were in the pregnant women's water aerobics class we took. Aunt Dani and her boyfriend Brad stopped by on their way to Florida. Finally, just yesterday, Aidan got his picture taken with the Easter Bunny but he was more interested in the bunny's fur than in smiling.
Mac's new job has taken him to Philadelphia for two months or so and he is home only on weekends right now. Every night, Mac calls or we use a program on the computer and Mac reads Aidan his bedtime story. On Tuesdays, Aidan goes over to Donna, Keith, & Courtney's house to play while Galit tutors since Mac is out of town. Courtney (18 months) shows him how to use all her toys and even tries to share her pacifier with him. We also had our friend Janet babysit Aidan so Galit could go to dinner with the Mom's Club.
What's next for us? Passover starts this week, but lucky Aidan can't have matzah yet! Aunt Meytal (Galit's sister) is coming to visit at the end of this week and Aunt Dani and Brad stop by again on their way back from Florida. Our friends Natasha and Stacey are coming at the end of April and we are hoping to have Aidan's grandparents (Mac's parents) down for a visit in May. Aidan's next doctor's visit is not until the end of June -- a 9 month checkup. (3/28/02)

At Aidan's four month checkup, he weighed 16 lbs., 14 oz. and was 26 inches long. He got the second round of immunizations and is otherwise doing well. A lot has happened since his two month update!
Developmental firsts: Aidan had his first cold in the beginning of December. At 2 1/2 months, Aidan started turning his head from side to side while on his belly and holding himself up on his forearms. He slept through the night (8 hours) four days before he turned three months old (although that didn't last at first). Just after he turned three months old, Aidan started reaching for toys that were put in front of him and promptly putting them in his mouth. He was also able to pet Oliver the cat when he got close enough (although once Aidan grabbed a fistful of fur, Oliver took off and hasn't been that close since!). One of our favorite firsts was when we took Aidan for his first swim at the end of December. We took him to the pool at our local gym and he enjoyed it so much we now go every week. Aidan must think the pool is one big bathtub! In the beginning of January Aidan started saying the "mmmm" sound instead of his usual vowel-only babble. He held a spoon for the first time (although in trying to get it to his mouth he continuously bonked himself in the head -- it was a soup spoon after all). Just recently he has been able to deliberately pick up toys and bring them to his mouth although he doesn't always get the toy he wants and it does sometimes take a while. A few days ago he lifted his whole chest up on his arms and hands and has actually started sitting on his own for just a few seconds after being placed in a sitting position.
Aidan's social life and the holidays: Aidan has a very active social life. He has visited our friends Donna and Courtney (who is a year older than Aidan) and gone out to the mall with Courtney and her friend Evan (same age as Courtney). He helped us pick out his (and Galit's) first Christmas tree and went to some Christmas parties (our friend Donna E.'s and one with people from Mac's work). He celebrated Hanukka by lighting candles (with some help from Mom), singing songs, and playing with his dreidl. He went to a dinner party with friends of Galit's that she used to work with (Sara & J.P., Suzanne & Jeremy, and Diana & Brendan). His Gramma and Grandpa Fraser, Aunt Meghan, Aunt Mo, and Uncle Mason (Mac's family) came to visit for Christmas and even babysat Aidan overnight while Mac and Galit got a night off! He had his first Christmas (he was awake for about an hour of gift giving before he fell asleep) and his first New Year's (none of us stayed up for it this year!). In the beginning of January Aidan saw his first snowfall (8 inches) and his Aunt Dani (Galit's best friend from NJ) and her boyfriend Brad came to visit. He also joined a playgroup (that both Courtney and Evan are in). After seeing the historic Virginia House on TV, Aidan went with us on a tour of the mansion (it's right here in Richmond).
What's going on now and what's next: Aidan is now sleeping 10 hours at night and taking regular naps throughout the day (usually a long morning nap, a short early-afternoon nap, and a long mid-afternoon nap). Those of you who have visited us know that this is amazing as Aidan used to be the baby that never napped. He wakes up in a great mood and stays that way til his next nap. We've found out that he's very ticklish. He loves to have one of us moving his arms or legs and singing to him -- he just laughs and laughs when we play with him. Unless he's tired, he pretty much smiles every time he sees one of us and if he doesn't smile then, as soon as we talk to him or smile at him, he smiles back. Now that he's turned four months old we can start giving him rice cereal (I'm sure we'll be posting some messy pictures of that soon!) and eventually we'll move on to fruits and vegetables. His next checkup is at 6 months. We are really enjoying every moment with him.(1/25/01)

Two Month Update

At his two month checkup, Aidan weighed in at 13 lbs., 8 oz. -- which was far less than we were guessing. He is 23 and 1/2 inches long. He got all his immunizations (which he didn't like too much). The issues from G6PD deficiency seem to be going away slowly, but again his development is not affected. He continues to develop well -- holding his head up, is very active throughout the day, smiling, cooing, gurgling, and has even started rolling over from stomach to back. He is much more attentive to sights and sounds now -- the ceiling fan can keep his attention for hours. It's hilarious to watch him smiling and giggling while the ceiling fan turns. Aidan's grandfather (Galit's Dad) was here for a visit over Thanksgiving and we had a great time. Tonight, Aidan sleeps in his crib for the first time (which means we'll be pretty tired and grouchy tomorrow!). Next checkup is at 4 months (in January). Galit and Mac are still doing well -- getting more and more sleep and learning to decipher Aidan's cries and moods. He's a very content baby and we've been very lucky so far. (11/26/01)

One Month Update (10/27/01)
On October 24, Aidan was exactly one month old. At his one month checkup on October 25, he weighed a whopping 10 lbs., 8 oz. - which is still in the normal range for a one month old, believe it or not - and he's 22 inches long. He continues to have some complications from his G6PD deficiency (a blood disorder he inherited from me) mostly in the form of jaundice, but he is not in any pain, it will have no long-term effects on his development, and it is completely treatable. The doctor says he looks absolutely perfect and is developing at a normal rate. In fact, he is able to lift his head when on his stomach and is turning towards sounds (milestones generally reached in the second and fourth months). He is extremely alert and active for most of the day and (knock on wood) seems to have settled into a night time routine. As for his parents, we're doing fine, too. It was a big adjustment after our family members left last weekend, but we're doing well. Mac returned to work a few weeks ago and Galit will be home at least for this school year. We're both enjoying parenthood, but are definitely much more appreciative of our own parents and all parents! Aidan's next checkup is at two months at which time he'll be getting his first round of immunizations.

2 Week Update (10/8/01)
Aidan just had his two week checkup and everything is great. His jaundice levels are way down so the phototherapy is done with. He now weighs 8 lbs. 1 oz. and is 20 1/2 inches long. He is a very good baby and we are all doing very well. This week Aidan's grandparents and great grandmother (Mac's parents and grandmother) are visiting and helping out and later in the week his grandmother and aunt(Galit's mom and sister Meytal) will be visiting as well. It's wonderful to have our family here and even more wonderful to show him off to everyone!

4 Day Update (9/28/01)
The whole family is home and we're all busy adjusting to our new life. Aidan had his first checkup today. Other than jaundice (for which he is recieving home phototherapy), Aidan is doing great. He 's almost back up to his birth weight and has even grown 3/8 of an inch. Just like his parents the animals are also adjusting. The cats seem to be more concerned about the lack of attention being given to them, while our dog Maggie is just curious about all the noises he makes. Aidan dosen't seem to notice the animals yet but he has tried to nurse on Maggie's nose - he didn't get very far! We'll continue to post pictures, but look forward to showing Aidan off in person soon.
